This week we have been fishing for everything! Walleyes, Bass, Trout and Salmon all throughout Door County, WI.
Walleyes have been biting in the lower bay and on the west shore. The bite has been a little tricky lately as it seems our Alewives are spawning. There also seems to be an over abundance of bait in the bay right now as well as the Lake Michigan side. This is GREAT to see and will only help our fishery in the coming years on both side. Walleyes have been biting crank bait while trolling as well as casting jigging spoons. We are also seeing some very large Perch while Walleye fishing which is always a tasty bonus! Once the alewife spawn is wrapped up and we get a much needed warm up the Walleye bite on the Bay of Green Bay side should only keep getting better!
Smallmouth bass seem to wrapping up their spawning season from Egg Harbor to Sister Bay. They certainly got a lot of pressure this spring from anglers. When a bass is spawning on its bed the best thing you as and angler can do is leave that fish alone and let them do their process of keeping our fishery healthy. The post spawn bite will start here this week and that certainly is a very fun bite to chase! Fish are hungry and very aggressive!
Salmon and Trout are taking their sweet time showing up here in Door County. We fishing yesterday and had one bite. Which is not good! This time last year we were seeing limits of Steelhead and a few salmon mixed in. But the cold spring we has is really showing out. We do have some positive warmer weather coming and this should really help our bite by warming the water temps! The reports I am hearing from the south side of the lake are all great and it sounds like the improved number of fish stocked the last two years are really showing true! Few more days and we will seeing a great number of fish here in Door County!
