If you are planning a trip to Door County this Memorial Day weekend and searching for things to do in Door County, now is one of the best times of the year to get out on the water. Spring fishing conditions across Door County have been very good, and at Big Bite Adventures we are currently seeing excellent smallmouth bass fishing along with a strong and consistent walleye bite throughout the area.
Big Bite Adventures is a full-time fishing charter and fishing guide service based in Door County, Wisconsin. We service the entire peninsula including Sister Bay, Ephraim, Fish Creek, Egg Harbor, Baileys Harbor, Jacksonport, and Sturgeon Bay. Whether you are looking for a spring bass fishing trip, a Door County walleye charter, or a summer salmon fishing charter on Lake Michigan, we offer fully guided trips for anglers of all ages and skill levels.
Spring fishing in Door County is currently in a classic cold-water pre-spawn pattern. Water temperatures have remained cooler than average this spring, ranging anywhere from 43 to 50 degrees depending on location, wind direction, sunlight exposure, and water clarity. Because of these colder temperatures, many of our smallmouth bass are still staging in four to ten feet of water before moving into their spawning areas.
The bass fishing has been very good over the last several weeks, and anglers are catching fish on a wide variety of presentations. Jerkbaits, swimbaits, Ned rigs, tubes, hair jigs, and soft plastics have all been producing quality fish. One of the best parts about spring bass fishing in Door County is the consistency and size of the fish this area produces. Door County continues to be considered one of the top smallmouth bass fisheries anywhere in the Midwest, and the late May and early June timeframe is one of the best opportunities of the entire year to target trophy smallmouth bass in shallow water.
The walleye fishing has also remained productive throughout the Bay of Green Bay region.

Depending on weather conditions and water clarity, we are catching walleyes both casting and trolling. Spring walleyes continue to be one of the most popular guide trips we offer because the action can be very consistent, and it is a great opportunity for both experienced anglers and families looking to spend time on the water together.
For many visitors coming to Door County during Memorial Day weekend or throughout the summer, booking a fishing charter or fishing guide trip is one of the best family activities available. A guided fishing trip gives visitors an opportunity to experience the local waterways, enjoy the scenery, learn about the area, and create memories with family and friends. Many tourists searching online for “things to do in Door County,” “family activities in Door County,” or “outdoor activities in Door County” are often looking for experiences that are unique to the area. Fishing on Lake Michigan or the Bay of Green Bay is one of the most authentic outdoor experiences Door County has to offer.
As we move through spring and into early summer, our focus quickly transitions into our highly popular salmon and trout charter season. June, July, and August are our busiest months of the year, and our summer calendar is already filling up quickly. Salmon fishing is one of the biggest tourism draws in Door County during the summer months, and it continues to be one of the most exciting fisheries anywhere on Lake Michigan.
Our summer salmon fishing charters are based out of Baileys Harbor on the Lake Michigan side of Door County. This location offers a major advantage compared to many other ports around the lake because our deep water and salmon fishing grounds are extremely close to shore. In many situations, we are actively fishing within just minutes of leaving the dock. Unlike some other ports where anglers may spend long periods of time running to offshore water, our Baileys Harbor location allows our customers to spend more time fishing and less time riding in the boat.
That additional fishing time matters, especially during prime low-light feeding periods early in the morning and late in the evening. June and July are typically peak months for king salmon, coho salmon, lake trout, and steelhead in Door County, and the action can be outstanding during those summer months. Salmon fishing on Lake Michigan offers an exciting experience for families, couples, bachelor and bachelorette groups, corporate outings, and serious anglers alike
.
At Big Bite Adventures, we currently run three salmon boats during the summer season, allowing us to accommodate nearly any group size. Whether you are booking a trip for one person, two people, or a larger group, we can help customize a trip that fits your needs. Our boats are family friendly, professionally rigged, clean, comfortable, and equipped with high-end electronics and fishing equipment designed specifically for Great Lakes salmon fishing.
One of the things that separates Big Bite Adventures from many other fishing charters in Door County is our flexibility and the amount of water we cover throughout the season. Because we service the entire Door County peninsula, we are able to fish where the strongest bite is occurring rather than limiting ourselves to only one area. This helps us stay on active fish and consistently put our customers in the best possible position for success
