Fishing in Door County remains a fantastic adventure for anglers of all skill levels! The Door County region, known for its stunning landscapes and pristine waters, offers exceptional opportunities for fishing enthusiasts. Currently, Smallmouth bass are either on their beds or actively preparing to spawn, making this an exciting time for fishing. Over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, we observed a significant number of pre-spawn fish in the area, showcasing the vibrant ecosystem that Door County has to offer.

Water temperatures in the bay of Green Bay range from 55 to 65 degrees, depending on your location. Warmer temperatures near Sturgeon Bay are warmer, while it gets cooler as you travel north towards Sister Bay and Ellison Bay. The Smallmouth bite is expected to remain excellent for the next couple of weeks, providing ample opportunities for anglers to catch trophy-sized fish before we transition into the world-class salmon season on the Lake Michigan side.

Walleye fishing on the bay side has also been solid over the past week, attracting both local and visiting anglers. However, one challenge to keep in mind is that the alewives(our main bait fish) will soon begin spawning. Once they move into shallow waters, the walleye bite may become tougher due to the abundance of food available. June is often regarded as one of the more challenging months for walleye fishing in Door County because of this surplus. Luckily, the salmon bite in June is renowned for being exceptional, attracting anglers from all over!

Speaking of salmon, they are starting to show up in our waters on the Lake Michigan side! We have a few openings over the next few weeks, providing some of the best fishing experiences of the year in June. With low angling pressure and a plethora of hungry, uneducated fish, many of our best fishing days are during this month! While July and August are also great months for fishing, June is often considered the sleeper month when the fish are particularly eager to bite, making it a prime time for anglers seeking a rewarding experience.

We keep our salmon boats docked in Baileys Harbor, which offers a distinct advantage over fishing in Sturgeon Bay. The primary difference lies in the proximity to prime fishing spots, as we are just 5 minutes away from some of the best locations. In contrast, if you book a charter in Sturgeon Bay, you may face a 45-minute to 1-hour no-wake zone ONE WAY. This inconvenient travel time means that if you book a 5-hour trip, you’re effectively only fishing for about 3 hours. In Baileys Harbor, we eliminate this hassle, allowing for more time on the water. Additionally, there are fewer boats and less pressure, creating a more enjoyable fishing experience. Soon, we expect to see limits of beautiful silver salmon here in Door County, and we couldn't be more excited to share this adventure with you!
