If you’re planning a vacation in Door County, Wisconsin this summer, now is the time to experience one of the top outdoor activities the peninsula has to offer—guided salmon fishing on Lake Michigan. Right now, we’re in the second to third week of July, and the salmon fishing is nothing short of excellent.
At Big Bite Adventures, we specialize in fishing charters and guided trips for both salmon and trout on the Lake Michigan side of Door County, including popular ports like Baileys Harbor and Sturgeon Bay. Whether you’re a family looking for fun things to do in Door County or an experienced angler searching for your next trophy king salmon, we’ve got you covered.
Unmatched Salmon Fishing on Lake Michigan
This season, the salmon bite has been the best we’ve seen in years. There are strong numbers of fish in the 10 to 20-pound range, and our boats are seeing catch numbers from 10 to 25 fish per trip, depending on the weather. That’s some of the most consistent action we’ve had in quite some time, and it’s a great sign for anglers visiting Door County as well as for future years to come on LAke Michigan!
Currently, we’re catching a mix of king salmon (Chinook) and rainbow trout, with a few coho salmon starting to show up as well. In our area—especially off Baileys Harbor—king salmon are the primary species we target throughout July and August. Their size and strength make for an unforgettable fight, and they’re delicious on the grill or smoker.
Trip Options Big Bite Provides: Morning & Evening Charters
To accommodate a wide range of visitors—from hardcore anglers to families with kids—we offer two salmon fishing charters per day:
Morning Trip: Leaves at 4:00 a.m. and returns by 9:00 a.m.
This trip is great for serious anglers looking to beat the heat and experience the thrill of a Lake Michigan sunrise while the fish are most active.
Evening Trip: Leaves at 4:00 p.m. and returns by 9:00 p.m.
A popular choice for families, couples, or anyone looking for a scenic and relaxing end to their Door County day. The evening bite has also been strong lately, with many guests catching their limit before sunset.
Both options offer a unique experience on the water and are great for making lasting vacation memories.
Private Charters, Comfortable Boats
At Big Bite Adventures, all of our trips are private charters. We don’t mix groups, so it’s just you and your crew on the boat. Whether you’re booking a couples’ getaway, a family reunion outing, or a fishing trip with the boys, we ensure that your time on the water is personalized and enjoyable.
Our two salmon boats are fully equipped with modern electronics, gear, and safety equipment. Plus, we offer boats with clean, private bathrooms, making our charters comfortable for all ages and experience levels.
We can accommodate groups ranging from two to six people, and we work hard to make every trip as smooth and successful as possible.

More Than Just Salmon In Door County
While we’re in the peak of our salmon and trout season right now (July and August), we also offer bass and walleye trips on the Bay of Green Bay side of the Door County Peninsula. These trips are ideal for guests who prefer freshwater action closer to shore or want to experience a different fishery.
Late August into September and October is when smallmouth bass and walleye fishing start to shine.
In November, we focus heavily on smallmouth bass, a favorite among sport anglers for their fight and size.
If you’re planning a trip in early fall, be sure to ask us about multi-species trips or combining different styles of fishing over a few days.
Booking Your Fishing Charter
If you’re visiting Baileys Harbor, Sister Bay, Ephraim, Fish Creek, Egg Harbor, or Sturgeon Bay, our boats are conveniently located and easy to access from anywhere in northeast Wisconsin.
We recommend booking your fishing trip as early as possible, especially for July and August salmon trips, which fill up quickly. However, we do our best to accommodate last-minute bookings and walk-ins when available.
