January in Door County is about as wintery as it gets. The snow is here, the water is cold, and the boats are off the lake. But even though fishing season feels a long way off, this is when most of our summer fishing trips actually get booked.
Every winter we start filling the calendar for the upcoming season, and if you’re planning a Door County trip in May, June, July, August, or even into the fall, now is the time to get on the schedule.
At Big Bite Adventures, we fish Door County year-round when conditions allow, and we guide trips for salmon, trout, smallmouth bass, and walleye. Whether you’re coming up with family, friends, or just want to get on some fish while you’re in town, we’re set up to make it happen.
One Charter. All of Door County Fishing.
Door County offers a lot of different fishing opportunities, and that’s what makes it special. We operate on both the Bay of Green Bay and Lake Michigan, which gives us flexibility to fish where the bite is best.
Our trips change with the seasons:
Spring means walleye and bass on the bay
Summer is all about salmon fishing on Lake Michigan
Fall brings back strong bass and walleye fishing
Instead of running the same trip all year long, we follow the fish and adjust with the seasons — which leads to better fishing and better experiences for our guests.
Salmon Fishing in Door County (Our Busiest Season)
Our salmon fishing charters in Door County are by far the most popular trips we run. These trips operate out of Baileys Harbor on Lake Michigan and run mainly during June, July, and August.
This is peak season in Door County, and it’s also peak season for King salmon. Between vacation traffic and high demand, these months fill up fast every year.
If salmon fishing is on your list while visiting Door County in the summer, don’t wait until the last minute. Once those dates are gone, they’re gone.
Spring Walleye & Bass Fishing on Green Bay
Before the salmon season gets going, spring offers some excellent fishing on the Bay of Green Bay.
April and May are prime months for walleye, while May and June can be outstanding for smallmouth bass. These trips are a great option for anglers who want to beat the summer crowds and still enjoy high-quality fishing.
Spring fishing trips are also popular with:
Anglers looking for cooler weather
Smaller groups
Repeat guests who know how good spring fishing can be
Summer Fishing in Door County
There’s no denying it — June, July, and August are the busiest months in Door County. Lodging books fast, Airbnbs disappear early, and fishing charters fill up right along with them.
Summer is perfect for:
Family fishing trips
First-time anglers
Private group charters
Vacationers looking for a true Great Lakes experience
All of our trips are private charters, meaning your group is the only group on the boat. No mixing parties, no rushed trips — just a relaxed day on the water.
Fall Fishing: Fewer People, Great Bites
Once summer winds down, September and October offer some of the most enjoyable fishing of the year. The crowds thin out, the weather cools off, and the bass and walleyes start feeding heavily again.
Fall trips are ideal if you:
Prefer quieter water
Want consistent fishing
Enjoy cooler temperatures
Are visiting Door County after peak season
Why Booking Early Matters
Every year we see the same thing happen. People wait until their trip is right around the corner, only to find:
Lodging is booked
Dates are limited
Preferred fishing times are gone
Winter is the best time to lock in your trip so everything else can fall into place later.
